Cyrano's Ten Principles

Nine:

The Law Of Cause And Effect.

By now it may be assumed that if you are reading this, and have not read principles 1 through 8, that you are probably here by accident, a byproduct of clicking random links in a website that means close to nothing to you. If this is the case, I suggest that you pick another site in which to click these random links, and you just may derive more from your experience than you will to try to understand what I am about to address.

So I will assume that there is a fair chance that you are here after doing some reading, and that even though the first eight Principles may or may not have been a part of your previous consumption, the title of this page caught your eye and your interest, and here you are! I will further assume that the idea of the existence of a cosmic law regarding cause and effect is something that you have had thoughts and possibly issues with.

The concept on which I am about to comment is one for a much more vast study, as in many of the other principles. For our purposes, and that of empowering you to envision a life of hope and achievement, I will limit the subject to a simple application of how this law will affect relationships. Please bear in mind that, along with all the other Principles, the essay I am offering here is not backed by some educational degree, but by years of learning the hard way, and thus deriving some elemental truths from the learning. What I have written previously in the Principles, and what follows, is my opinion on the relevancy of the Principles, and my personal view of what they represent - nothing more.

In an earlier Principle I address the concept that "everything changes." This is a reality check on all levels - spiritual, mental, and physical. The particular idea that needs to be differentiated from Principle #3 is that intention becomes the key element, not simply awareness. The observation that everything changes is important for developing a viewpoint. However taking action in a physical, mental, or spiritual way is altogether another thing, and hence brings to mind not just the action taken or its results, but the purpose one has behind the action. With this in mind we are suddenly concerned with the concept of intention. Intentions do not stand alone. They are the beginning of the action. Then when the action is taken, it remains to be seen whether the intentions are served by the actions or not. When considering intentions, a new light is cast upon the viewing of the results. It is important to understand that things are in constant motion and everchanging, and that we have some effect on the flow of energy and events. But in order to get in touch with how we affect our own world, we must understand that our actions start with the inception of a thought or concept. Yes, we are dealing with morals and integrity. But the issues that I wish to bring to light is how we think and what we intend.

Let us consider the concept of an everchanging universe. What is it that is changing? Everything in our universe is a transposition of energy from one form to another. There is an exchanging of electrons and the development of magnetism. It is all energy. When something grows it is developing and using energy. When something dies or dissipates, it is releasing energy. Everything is in a contant process of changing from one temporary condition to another. The change may be very slow, such as the metamorphosis of a cocoon to a butterfly. Or, it can be immediate and more impactful, like the explosion of a bomb. As soon as a baby is born, it starts to grow old. A seedling draws from the ground its water and nutrients, and someday will fall back to the ground and become the nutrients for a new living thing. There is a cycle to all life and all existence. It all starts as energy, and when the cycle completes itself, it is still energy.

Now for the quantum leap - thought is also energy.

The concepts of telepathy, clairvoyance, and extra sensory perception are facts among many people. Some may think these concepts are more fantasies than a realities. Yet most people, even if only in a joking sense, are inclined to believe that they are possible, or are reserved about denying their existence, not being ready to defend a stand against them.

Personally, I am not sure how it works, but I do believe that there is something to these concepts. Here's why:

IT'S ALL ENERGY! Thought is as much energy as a fire burning wood is energy. Thought is as much energy as a computer sending email is energy. Thought is as much energy as a bat driving a ball out of the major league stadium is energy. If we can believe that a phone line can carry a signal through it because of its ability to convey a stream of electronic pulses, then is it so hard extend that concept out to another level to believe that energy in some form can also be conveyed between two points, carried through the air which acts as the medium of transfer? We can hear each other talk at some distance. That is called sound. As a commonplace way of communication we accept that, and take it for granted. Could there be additional type of wave other than sound that travels through space without a wire? Without a high-frequency generator and a receiver? Could there be something called thoughtwaves?

...and there is, then maybe there is something to prayer... Maybe there is something to positive thinking... Maybe there is something to meditation... Maybe thought is the generation of energy through the universe just as significant as flying a plane, driving a car, or walking. Perhaps the sending of energy as thought is as traceable as an email if we knew what to look for. Perhaps all we need to know is the language.

What I am suggesting is that we consider that if energy can be transferred through thought, then much is explained that was previously nonsensical, ridiculous or fantastic. Suddenly the concept of a Vulcan Mind-Meld is not so absurd. And if things like the Vulcan Mind-Meld can be explained, then what else is possible? Is telepathy - the communication through means other than the senses - possible? Is clairvoyance - the power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses - possible? Is ESP - Communication or perception by means other than the physical senses - a reality? I am not prepared to substantiate any claims to the fact of these concepts. Yet I am prepared to believe that there is the possibility that they are all real, and that with research and training more people could accomplish some of them. Perhaps some generations from now these will be things that most or all people can do, making telephone calls and email interactions obsolete. In the meantime, we must consider that although we are not proficient at these methods of communication, we do send signals, perhaps even unconsciously, that may have an effect on others.

First we must start with the concept that thought is energy. If you can believe this, then many things may be considered. The concept of telekinesis is one that suggests that by holding a spoon in one hand, you can bend it with your mind alone. That must take some form of energy to direct the metal to move against it's natural tendency to remain in the shape it was in before you picked it up. Levitation is something that scientists and spiritual researchers have studied that suggests that the laws of gravity may be defied through some unseen magnetism or divine power. No matter how you look at it, if something moves, bends, or changes in any way from its original state or position, some energy was expended to exact that change.

Once again, my purpose is not to challenge these ideas or prove them. I only seek to acknowledge that if they are possible, then some energy or power that we do not understand completely was probably responsible.

My purpose for bringing up such controversial subjects is to open the mind and one's thinking. It is my belief that anything is possible, I just don't always know how. If we open our minds enough to admit that although we do not know the answers to the question and that all it takes to enable a seemingly impossible concept is to have the right formula, then suddenly we might see that things that we would classify as miraculous, magical, or impossible could be a reality.

It isn't necessary for us to prove the concept of telepathy or levitation in this essay. We don't even have to challenge the idea that with the right attitude one can move mountains. We don't even need to determine whether or not we believe that a mother, horrified that her child lies beneath the wheel of a car, can exercise superhuman strength and pick up one end of that car by herself (that one has been documented and witnessed, by the way). However, in order to understand how we can affect the relationships in our lives, we must consider that if thought is energy, then we can affect people directly through what and how we think.

Have you ever called someone on the phone, and they said to you, "I was just thinking about you!" or, "Were your ears ringing , and is that why you called?" Invariably when I would write an email to my girlfriend, she would call me. Maybe that was because we talk every day, and often at the same times... or perhaps when I am thinkiing about her she feels it somewhere in her being, and thoughts of me enter her mind. Or maybe she is already thinking about me, and I reacted to the energy of that thought, and suddenly I wanted to talk to her or email her a message. Whatever the case, there is a possibility that through thought we send an electrical pulse that triggers some other response.

If it is possible that without knowing how, and without actually trying, we are sending some essence of energy to others through our thoughts, what would happen if we were able to harness this power? There are some major ramifications to this concept. One is that we could realize that through thought we have been influencing people all along. In thinking back over time, have we been sending good vibes, bad vibes, concern, doubt, anger, love? How have these thoughts affected the actions of the people involved? Your loved ones? Your co-workers? Could your thoughts and attitude have had an effect on the outcome of some situation without you realizing it? Perhaps.

There is a story as told by a famous pastor of a church in Southern California who told of a group of spiritual leaders who, during World War II, spent time, around the clock, praying for the war to end and for the Allies to defeat the terrible evil of the Nazi movement across the world. It is believed by some that the war ended as a result of their prayers, and may have had a different outcome if there had not been this focused group of individuals all praying for the same righteous end. Perhaps the world would be a much different place if this particular group of resistance leaders had not spent their time as they did.

Here is the flip side to this coin: Could your thoughts have the power to influence the future? Is there something you could do in your own mind that might redirect the flow of life around you? Consider these expressions that the Amercian public has grown so used to:

"Think good thoughts..."
"Mind over matter..."
"Send good vibes!"
"Have no doubt!"
"Have no fear!"
"Be brave!"
"You'd better believe it!"
"Don't let it get you down!!"
"Be sure of yourself!"
"You can do it!"

Surely we could list a hundred more sayings that we use every day. There are lots of things we tell ourselves in order to psych ourselves up to handle things we don't want to deal with or are not sure that we can. Maybe there is something that we do every day that takes a lot of courage or strength. Then we may need reassurance to keep doing it, and encouragement to endure. Without that kind of support would we keep on doing something that we don't want to? What if it was painful or emotionally draining? Would we keep on doing it if we did not have a good reason? If we did not feel that there were people benefitting from our efforts would we continue? Even if we were sure that our cause was a good one but we were unappreciated - would we think that the job we were doing was worthwhile? Could we maintain the kind of effort needed if it was unnoticed? Unrecognized as a good thing? Who knows? There are altruistic individuals who can keep doing something even though there is no obvious reward or payment, as long as they believe in what they are doing. However the human thing is to seek some form of compensation - a handshake, a hug, a smile, a paycheck. If nothing is forthcoming to reinforce the effort it often stops.

So, what is my point? The point is that everyone needs support. Everyone needs positive energy. Everyone needs love. And you can give them these things even when you are not in their presence in the physical sense. Your thoughts are the generations of electical impulses that flow through the mind and send signals to all parts of your body. They also reside in the mind, not necessarily to move the body itself. If we believe that thoughts are energy, then we should consider the possibility of its unseen influence on thr world around us and the people in our lives. This is where the concept of intention plays its part. Intention is the personal commitment on the part of the thinker as to what they mean or wish to accomplish with their thoughts. Intention may be as innocuous as thinking someone is nice. It could also be as harsh as hating someone, or wishing them harm.

Have you ever been in someone's presence and felt their negative attitude? Maybe you just wanted to get away from them? It may have been as though you could see the facial expression and the body language, and somehow determine that this person was evil.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are people who everyone likes and loves. They always seem to bring light to a dark place, and cheer everyone up. When they leave the room they are talked about in good terms and loving ways. The chatters may say that these people have a kindness, a glow, an aura.

There are obviosuly elements that we can qualify and quantify that determine the goodness or negativity in people. But are their things we do not see? When the evil person is out of site, do you still feel the negativity that they left behind as they walked past you? Does the wake of the good person leave everyone in the room feeling warm and fuzzy? Probably. These are both examples of evidence showing that intentions are a measurable, real element.

Consider this: You meet someone, and develop deep feelings for her. You are utterly convinced that you are in love, but you have not told her so. Does not telling her change the fact that you love her? Can she feel your love although it is not declared?

Here is my perspective: honesty, truth and love are measurable. We just don't have the device that does the measuring. We can sense honesty and truth to a great extent, but cannot rely on it as a fact because of human nature and the tendency for people to fool even themselves. We can sense attraction and even love, but cannot determine the limits of that love, and what someone will endure to sustain it.

Hence, it becomes the responsibility of those who love to be true to the ones they love, when together, or when apart. Thinking of the person you love in loving ways will reach that person and affect his or her day, even if that person is on the other side of the world..

There is a confidence that builds as a result of consistency in this kind of thinking. When achieved, this confidence allows us freedom. It allows us to believe that there is nothing that our loved ones would do to hurt us on purpose. It allows us to be impervious to claims of others that there are falsehoods in the relationship. The strength that results from this is amazing.

I sit at times thinking about my Sweetheart. I have the privilege of being with a woman with the kindest of hearts. I am convinced that by thinking about her in loving ways, I am improving her day. I visualize the energy of my thoughts reaching through space ove any distance and touching her. I "see" her in my mind, at work, at home, and driving her car. I remember images of her at times that we have shared. I think of her when I look up and see white clouds floating in a blue sky. The Southern California sunsets, as they turn from pink, to orange, to purple, remind me of the many colorful aspects of her personality.

...and it makes me smile!

In the midst of this thinking, I am also convinced that I generate an energy with the thoughts that inevitably is received by her. This is something that must help charge her in a positive sense. She may not realize it was me... or she just might, as so often happens, decide it's time to give me a call. Either way, I must believe that I have in some way enhanced her day, and given something to her whether she is aware of this gift or not. I also believe that she spends a considerable amount of time during her day sending me the same kind of gifts!

The Law Of Cause And Effect suggests that we can be in charge of our thoughts, and responsible in our generation of energy to ourselves and others. The knowledge that we can affect another's day through thought is something of higher consciousness. Someday we will study it as a science and use it in our everyday communications. Until then, we must acknowledge that what we think has value, and that we can at any moment make a difference in someone's day. We can enhance our loved ones' lives, and support them at all times.

It's all about mental and spiritual attitude.

A couple of things to remember:

Actions taken when going through motions, such as traditions for the tradition's sake, are wasted and have little or no meaning.
Actions taken when you want some desired result that benefits you are often greedy in nature, and are not examples of silent giving (See Principle #6).
Actions taken supporting the things that you believe in and benefit the ones you love have meaning.

Therein lies the difference.

Good will is an attitude of kindness or friendliness or benevolence. Thinking in terms of good will is to generate positive energy that will benefit others, and share the attitudes of kindness, friendliness or benevolence. It is a state of mind that conveys goodness to others. So give for the right reasons, and keep your reasons for giving in your mind and thoughts at all times, where you can give silently in a stream of consistency, and constantly benefit those you love. The Law Of Cause And Effect convicts us to thinking the right things, checking our values, and always projecting positivity and love.

Remember one more thing: Intention could be more important that the action itself. One's perception often dictates what actions should or could be. But we do not always conceeive accurately. In any occasion hat you have an interaction with someone and they say, "But I didn't know that..." or, "But I thought..." or, "Didn't you know that..." These kind of questions or statements imply that there was a misunderstanding between two people. Often when it is discussed, and both parties share in their perceptions, each will realize that although things didn't turn out for the best, or could have been better in some way, each was trying to do what they thought was right, even keeping the other's best interests in mind.

Although actions speak louder than words, knowing the intentions brings awareness - awareness brings understanding - and with enough understanding we can forgive anything that seemed at one time inappropriate. When one understands why someone did something, often times the results are thinking such as, "Well, with that in mind, I would have done the same thing..." or, "Now I see what you were trying to do..." or, "Well, that's different." It is not wise to base all your conclusions on the events, the situation or the results. Always wonder why. What were the intentions. Much may be discovered that was not already known.

If we can do this, we may on the right path to our destiny!

Don't believe in destiny? You don't really have to... but tomorrow is coming regardless of whether you do or not. Do you believe that you have some power or control over how tomorrow will be? Perhaps the Law Of Cause And Effect has shed some light that just might gove us an additional clue.
